Everything you need to get Easy Media Backup running is to be connected to your Wi-Fi network (both your computer and your Android device) and to have shared folder in your computer and select it in Easy Media Backup app in your Android device.

Setup in your Android device

  1. Open Easy Media Backup app.
  2. Select source backup folder by tapping on folder you want to backup. (You can see content of selected folder below the list of folders).
  3. Choose the date from which the media you want backed by adjusting the "slider".
  4. Tap on "Next" button at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Select your shared folder where your media will be backed.
  6. And press the "Finish" button.
  7. That's it! Now your media files will be backed up. You can track the backing status of each media file on the bottom right corner.

Setup shared folder in your Computer

Windows, Linux or OS X (Mac)
  1. Make sure you have your network sharing enabled and set up.
  2. Find or create suitable folder anywhere on your hard drive using file explorer.
  3. Right click on that folder.
  4. In context menu choose "Properties" option.
  5. Switch to tab called "Sharing".
  6. Click on "Advanced Sharing".
  7. New window shows up, check "Share this folder".
  8. Next you can change the name of folder how it will be visible in network and write a comment if you wish and then press "OK" button.
  9. In folder properties tab click on "Share..." button at the upper part of the window.
  10. In new window click on text input field and choose "Everyone" and click on "Add" button.
  11. New item is added at the bottom of the list under text input field. Click on row with name "Everyone".
  12. Click on cell In "Permission level" column.
  13. Select "Read/Write" in dropdown menu.
  14. Then you click on "Share" button at the bottom of window.
  15. Now you see info window about your shared folder, just click on "Done" button.
  16. And just click on "Apply" button and then you can close folder properties.
  17. It's done! Your folder and its contents are shared now.

  8. That's All! Now your folder is shared.
User friendly - GUI way: Exact option names may vary according to your distribution and GUI you are using.
  1. Find or create suitable folder anywhere on your hard drive using file browser(e.g. Dolphin).
  2. Right click on that folder.
  3. In context menu choose "Properties..." option.
  4. New window pop up. Click on "Share" tab.
  5. Check "Share with Samba (Microsoft Windows)" and "Allow users to change my files" fields.
  6. Change permision in line with "Everyone" to "Full Control".
  7. Click on "OK" button.
  8. Now it's shared!
Alternative - console/terminal way:
  1. Open your console/terminal.
  2. You need to be root to use this command - use "su" (Debian) or "sudo" (Ubuntu).
  3. Then enter command bellow using your own parameters as shown in example.
  4. net usershare add {sharedFolderName} {absolutePathToYourFolder} {sharedFolderDescription} everyone:F guest_ok=no{sharedFolderName} is label for file that will be shown on the network. {absolutePathToYourFolder} is absolute path from root to folder you want to share. {sharedFolderDescription} is description of folder shown on the network. Example:
    net usershare add myFolder /home/userjohn/myFolder "Description to my shared folder" everyone:F guest_ok=n
  5. You can verify that your folder is shared by typing this command in console: net usershare info --long if you see your file in console text output then it is shared.
Troubleshooting - Samba settings
  1. If you still can't access your folder you have to setup Samba.
  2. Important thing is to have smb account with same name as your linux user name. You can create it with one simple command in terminal.
  3. Type: smbpasswd -a yourLinuxUserName. (e.g. sudo smbpasswd -a tom). The system will respond with:
    New SMB password: Enter password
    Retype new SMB password: Retype password
    This will result into the following message:
    Added user tom.
  4. If you still have a problem connecting to your shared folder try to setup your Samba as shown down.
  5. Open terminal. Open /etc/samba/smb.conf as root in your favourite text editor (e.g. sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf).
  6. In smb.conf under "[global]" set your "workgroup" and remove any preceding "#" or ";" on the line.
  7. Scroll down look for "security" under "Authentication" set it to "user" and remove any preceding "#" or ";" on the line. (This line should look like: security = user)
  8. Now save smb.conf and close it.
  9. Restart samba service as root: sudo service samba restart and everything should working corectly now.
  1. Go to "System Preferences".
  2. Click on "Sharing" icon in "Internet & Wireless" preferences group.
  3. Check the box in the left that says "File Sharing".
  4. In the middle are shared folder you can add another by clicking "+" button.
  5. Find or create your folder, click on it and then click on "Add" button.
  6. Click on your newly added folder.
  7. In "Users" tab set permisions to "Read & Write".
  8. Then click on "Options..." button above the "Users" tab.
  9. Check the box "Share Files and Folders using smb (Windows)" and check your account in tab bellow too.
  10. Enter your password, hit "OK" then "Done" buttons.
  11. That's it!
  12. You can check your shared folders via "Finder" on left side of the window there is bookmark called "Shared" there you can see all your shared folders.
